How to get Around

Ok , so this is a web site about walking, but sometimes you need to know how you can get to the start of a walk or return when maybe you're either too hot or just too tired!

Bus

There is a very good municipal bus service. However you have to understand that as it is a 'municipal' bus service, it is here to serve the whole community including visitors. Therefore the timings can be a 'little' out.

The time keeping from Megalo Horio, which is where all journeys start from is usually fairly accurate but the timings in Livadia can be slightly variable!!

MONDAY -SATURDAY

The bus leaves Megalo Horio and Livadia at the above times. Its route according to the timetable is

Megalo Horio > Eristos Beach > Ag.Antonis > Megalo Horio > Livadia

and

Livadia > Megalo Horio > Ag. Antonis > Eristos > Megalo Horio

This can depend on the driver knowing where people are and when and where they want to go. Therefore you might find yourself having a tour of the island on the way to your destination as the route fluctuates according to the needs of the locals or visitors.

One other thing you should note is that the 0820 from Livadia almost always leaves late during school term as it waits for the last child to arrive. The 1245 from Megalo Horio brings the little darlings home.

Try to take a leaf out of the Greek peoples' book. They can be quite philosophical! here are a couple of expressions to ponder while you are waiting.

SUNDAY SPECIAL

During the summer season the bus makes a special journey to Ag.Panteleimonas on Sundays

Leaving Livadia at 11.00am and spending 40mins at the monastery before returning to Livadia. Cost €4 pp

Typical single prices -

Livadia to Megalo Horio €1.00 pp

Livadia to Ag. Antonis   €1.20 pp

Livadia to Eristos          €1.20 pp

You pay when you leave the bus.

Please note that these times have been taken from the timetable published by the council but be aware that it can change so always check. Also in the height of the season there can be extra buses including 2 or 3 evening buses around to the far end of the bay (Faros) or for a special evening at the amphitheatre etc.

Taxi

There is also a very good taxi service run by Nikos and Tula Logothetis, who both speak excellent English. Typically during the summer they will be found drinking coffee in Livadia square or halfway between Megalo Horio and Livadia to reach either village in the shortest time. They don't live in Livadia so they have to make special prices when they are called from home. For example, if you want the taxi from Livadia immediatley and it is either at home or shortly about to take a fare from Megalo Horio to Livadia and you can't wait, it will cost you an extra €2 on any fare. However if you are prepared to wait for (mainly) a short time (an extra retsina perhaps) it will cost you the prices below. The car can carry 4 passengers.
